‘Vertigo’ Star Kim Novak Slams ‘The Artist’ for ‘Rape’ of Hitchcock Film’s Theme
I want to report a rape. I feel as if my body — or, at least my body of work — has been violated by the movie, The Artist.
This film could and should have been able to stand on its own without depending upon Bernard Herrmann’s score from Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo to provide it more drama.
Not too long ago LIFE.com reached out to Novak, now 78 and an artist living in Oregon, to find out what it was like to be in LIFE’s pages.
Here, she reminisces about her two cover stories — including an iconic nine-page spread photographed by Leonard McCombe — and takes a look back at some never-before-seen early-career photos.
